I’ve learnt a lot about business from a relatively short period of time.
I wanted to share some of what I’ve learnt with you today, by giving you 5 tips to help you succeed with your business.
I’m always learning new things, and it definitely hasn’t stopped here.
In this blog post I’m going to be giving you 5 tips, tricks and knowledge which I’ve learnt in the last eleven months, so you can avoid some of these mistakes which I’ve made, and keep these in mind when you start your own business. If you’ve already started your business adventure, this blog post can help you out too, as you might not of already come across these points.
I want you to come away from this blog post with a fresh feel about what it takes to make your business a success, and to feel motivated to keep going, and to never give up on your goals or dreams. So let’s get cracking!
#1 – Patience
I’ve discovered that with patience, hard work and drive, that anything is possible. At the very start of this blog, (and it’s still a rather new blog at that), if I was to give up in the first few weeks or first month, I wouldn’t of been able to talk to you, and yes, I mean you! I’m very honoured to be able to give you advice, tips and knowledge on a weekly basis. If I didn’t have patience, I wouldn’t of been able to talk to you, build a couple of excellent relationships with other business owners, and be able to build my own brand as well.
Unfortunately, good things in life are never easy to achieve, and if you go into business, then this is definitely the case. But, if you stick with it, don’t give up, work hard, and use Steve Jobs quote as inspiration, you’ll be able to achieve anything that you want.
#2 – Be Realistic
It’s great to have dreams and goals, as these are the things which truly motivate us. This could be earning a certain amount of money (even though money doesn’t give you happiness!), becoming an expert in your field, or being able to support your family and say “I built my own business from nothing”. Whatever your goal or idea is, I think it’s crucial that you keep your head firmly to the ground, and don’t let your idea get too out of hand.
What do I mean by this?
Well from my experience, whenever I started to think of a brand new business idea, I would often get a bit carried away by how the idea can really push my business forward. This is dangerous as if the idea doesn’t meet these high expectations, then your going to think that either;
- It was a bad idea in the first place
- Get disheartened and frustrated by how it didn’t match your expectations
- And as a result, give up on the idea
- What you should actually do – think of the idea, be realistic with it, and even if it doesn’t succeed, keep driving the idea forward, until you make it a success
I don’t want you to think that I’m a massive kill joy, who likes crushing on peoples dreams and goals, because dreams are what drives us in business.
Your business might not take off straight away, you’ll have to put in the hard work, persevere with it, and with a bit of luck here and there, you can achieve your dreams and goals.
#3 – You Never Ultimately Reach The End
Ever played a video game and reach the credits?
Watch a film right through to the end and find out how the story unfolds?
Or finish a destination in a car?
Well, unfortunately, this isn’t the same for business, as we never truly reach completion. If you manage to get one problem sorted, answer one of your audience’s questions or re-design a part of your website, there’s always something round the corner which you’ll have to deal with.
It’s a never ending process, which makes it challenging, rewarding and can fill you with motivation and drive day in, day out. There’s always something which can push your business further. You’ll always be wanting to make your business even better, so if your looking to start a business, then you should definitely keep this point in mind.
#4 – Don’t Do It By Yourself
I wouldn’t of even managed to get this blog, my Illustration website, and t-shirt company of the ground if it wasn’t for my brother, who’s a Web Developer. I’m not even sure how I would of managed to set up a website like this up, so it’s probably best to not think about!
Even though I may be quite good at Illustration and Design, I need a lot of help with website development, and getting a website up and running.
I could of tried to do this all by myself, but it would of taken me about 1,000 times longer than my brother, and wouldn’t of looked as good!
If you know your struggling with a certain part of your business, don’t let your pride get in the way of asking someone else for help. It might cost you, but you can save yourself a ton of time by getting someone else to help you out, so you can concentrate on the things which your good at.
#5 – It May Be Hard, Challenging, But It Sure Is Rewarding!
You may think when I say rewarding, I mean money making, but there is definitely hundred more important things than just money. It’s about living your passion, waking up everyday to do the thing that you want to do, and happily work a few extra hours to finish of a blog post or commission to a client.
Good things in life never come easy!
Instead of working for someone else, you can do the thing that you most want to do in life, and succeed at it! If your looking to start your own business, make sure you keep these points in mind, and you’ll create that dream business which you’ve always wanted!
Summary Of Points
- Be patient with your business, and let it grow, follower by follower, sale by sale
- Be realistic with your own expectations, as your business may not reach them in the beginning
- Be prepared that your business is never truly completed, as theres always something else which you need to work on
- Ask for help whenever you need it, as you can’t do it all by yourself!
- If your following your passion, it can be the most rewarding thing you’ll ever do!
