Know the secret of successful business networking?
Want more sales and leads?
Networking is brilliant at building connections, growing your business and getting you out of the office.
Popular with freelancers, self employed and small business owners, networking is crucial for success.
With every businessperson networking nowadays, what’s the one secret that can make you stand out?
Within this blog post you will discover my one essential tip that will guarantee successful networking.
The Power Of Being Attentive
Being attentive is the key formula for successful business networking.
But you’ll be surprised not everyone does it.
Being attentive doesn’t mean you just take part in interactions, but you actually care about what the other person has to say.
You listen, participate, ask questions, and be active.
I’ve attended lots of business networking events where people seem uninterested, with their minds elsewhere.
They’re out for themselves, looking for that next opportunity.
These people are found out as they are after one thing – themselves. This is a mistake as this doesn’t lead to more business.
You need to take care of the connections that you make, as they say it’s who you know, not what you know. If this is the case, make sure you nature your relationships.
Getting Ahead In The Game
The key here is to focus on what the other person wants.
If you go up to a stranger and promote your business, they’ll become bored and uninterested quickly.
Think of it as a cocktail party, you would never approach someone and tell them about yourself straight away.
This is unfriendly, rude and off-putting.
Instead you’ll ask about what they do, what their interests are and gauge an idea about who they are as a person.
This is the same in business networking.
Be attentive and ask what the other person wants and desires, and you’ll be in their good books from the start.
You can then go ahead and have an active conversation, which will then give you the opportunity to talk about yourself and your business.
Here’s a few tips to being more attentive;
- Ask questions
- Actually listen
- Talk about them
- Remember their name
- Discuss their interests
- Give your full attention
- Be interested
- Promote your business when they ask
When you’re next talking to someone, try this out and see how open the other person is (as everyone loves talking about themselves).
If you’re struggling with this, a book that I highly recommend is ‘How to Win Friends & Influence People’ by Dale Carnegie.
It’s a fantastic book that can help you with networking and dealing with people, so they not only like you, but want to do business with you.
The Secret Business Networking Code You Can Learn
Being attentive is a skill.
It can be learnt, refined and mastered with practise.
You’ll do more business with others if you care about what the other person wants, without having a hidden motive.
Of course, business networking is all about promoting your own business, but this can be achieved in a way that’s respected.
Always help other people with their own desires, and you’ll gain more clients, customers and money.
Be attentive, and you’ll see big results in your networking.
