What I Cannot Live Without
Before going into depth into what tools and services I use for each website, I firstly want to showcase 4 products which I simply cannot live without, which I use on a daily basis. These products are highly recommended by me, which are all extremely easy to use and effective.
INFOart, Haydn Symons Illustration, and my other business, Graphic Tide, are all hosted by Vidahost. They offer fantastic rates, have a great customer service and are very easy to use if your thinking about setting up your next website. I cannot rate Vidahost highly enough, and there website is clean and is slick too!
I absolutely love WordPress, as it's the best blogging platform out there, which is used by millions of people everyday. Easy to post content, add tags, titles, it really does everything you want it to do! I use WordPress across all of my websites, as it's a great way to showcase valuable content to a vast audience and set up on your website.
You might already have this software, as it's a universal product, but Photoshop is a key element for creating any website. I designed my three websites with Photoshop, which was then taken into development by my Brother, who's a Web Developer. Photoshop has photo editing capabilities, digital painting tools and retouching elements, including many others, which has made it an outstanding product. It's also crucial if your looking to add some personality to your website or blog, as you can create an image for your blog posts in minutes!
I use MailChimp throughout INFOart and Graphic Tide, as I love the user experience and the design of the whole software. Sign up is painless, and if you have under 2,000 subscribers, and send under 12,000 emails, then you can get a free account with them, which is ace! I highly recommend MailChimp as a email marketing choice.
I use this tool from Google across all of my websites. It's free and allows me to see exactly how my website is doing, in terms of how many people come to my website, how long their on for and where they came from. I get a clear insight into how I can improve my website, as it also offers other great features like Bounce Rate percentages.
Similar to Google Analytics, webmaster tools is also run by the mighty Google, and is another essential element if you have website. It allows you to gain information on keyword research, impressions and clicks to your website, on a daily basis. I highly recommend both Google Analysis and Webmaster Tools.
After creating a free account with Adsense, you can place relevant adverts on your website which generates money for you, depending on how many people click on a particular advert.
This great book by Seth Godin is an excellent read for any aspiring entrepreneur, business owner or blogger. This book tells you how to lead a team and how everyone can start a movement. This was an excellent read and I highly recommend this book to anyone.
I received this book for Christmas 2013 from my brother, and absolutely love the content inside. This is a great book if your looking to make a living from your passion, by growing your audience, becoming an expert in your field, and having a great time doing it! Gary Vaynerchuk is a great speaker and comes across very well within the book, and constantly gives me lots of new ideas which I can use to push my business forward.
A great little book which is suitable for all sorts of creatives and entrepreneurs, which gives you insightful advice of how to reach your potential, and not stop until you've reached your dreams. Even though this is directed at the art and design industry, I would still recommend this to entrepreneurs, and those of you who are thinking about starting your own business. "It's not how good you are, it's how good you want to be!"
I'm always looking to improve my type and designs skills, and this book does just that! If you ever wanted to know why some type looks terrible, while others look fantastic, then this is the book for you. This not only taught me a lot about the type I use within my illustration work, it has allowed me to construct my websites in a more attractive way, as there's a lot of type on my blog!
Graphic Tide is my other business adventure, which sells artists and designers work on t-shirts, to sells worldwide. Our blog showcases weekly inspiration for creatives to help feed their new and current projects. We feature inspiration from all around the globe, including typography, illustration, graphic design, fine art, and photography.
A great website which showcases some fantastic new and up coming artists and designers, which is written and designed excellently. It's Nice That picks the best art and design so you don't have to!
An ever increasing blog website, which has some top creative blogs for you to follow. Tumblr allows you to follow your favourite artists and designers, and gives you a look into what their up to at the moment. It also allows you to upload work to the website, to start your own Tumblr blog.
I constantly visit Behance for inspiration on my next project, as it's a platform which showcases quality imagery from outstanding professionals. I love to look at all sorts of disciplines which are outside of my own industry, like Fine Art, Graphic Design, Photography and Typography.
