Have you thought of your own customer personas?

Do you know why it’s even important?

Within this series about marketing plans, customer personas plays an important part in the process. If you fail to complete this crucial step, it can drastically alter the effect of your marketing.

Within this blog post you’ll learn how to construct your own customer personas, how to investigate into your perfect customer, and ultimately take your marketing to the next level. Doing Your Research

In order to know exactly who makes up your customer personas, you need to do your research.

You need to understand them more than they know themselves. This will help your marketing considerably, as you’ll know exactly how to market towards them. These customers make up your perfect audience, and the people that you want to market towards.

Here’s a quick list of the things you need to find out. I’ll show you my example to help you too;

  • Name (always good to help you imagine this person) – Daniel
  • Occupation – Graphic Designer
  • Sex – Male
  • Age – 25
  • Where – UK
  • Relationship Status – Single
  • Interests – graphic design, design, art, illustration, painting, posters, branding, business, marketing, computers, Apple, Macs
  • Hobbies – Drawing, designing, art, life drawing, exhibitions, running, fitness, gaming, football
  • Wants – someone to help him elevate his own designs, and will consider services to help him do that, at the right price

You can see that I’ve painted a clear picture of what Daniel likes and what his interests are. I highly recommend you do the same for your customer persona. I know his hobbies, his interests, and most importantly, his wants. If you can succeed at knowing what your customers want, then your profiles will be a success.

Understanding Them

One of the ways you can learn about what they want is by asking them. Make use of social media, email potential clients, and see if you can meet individuals for coffee if that’s a possible option.

When creating your customer personas, you can sometimes feel like you’re trying to guess what they really want. Even though this might be spot on (as I always feel like I’m guessing too much when creating mine), it can sometimes leave your personas lifeless.

To really get to the heart of your customers, this is such an ideal thing for you to do. This will help elevate your marketing to that next level, as you’ll know exactly what your customers want.

Writing Multiple Customer Personas

When creating your customer persona, its incredibly important to create several profiles.


Because there’s not just one perfect customer for your business, but most commonly several. One of your perfect customers might be completely different to another. Their wants, interests and hobbies are all different, which is why it’s so important that you create multiple customer personas.

To get to the nitty gritty of your customers, you need to know about them in as much detail as possible. This will ensure that you’re always marketing towards the correct audience.

Taking Your Customer Personas Into Your Marketing Plan

Now you’ve come to understand your ideal customers, you now need to integrate this into your marketing plan.

Following from my last blog post, helping you create your marketing plan, you now need to think about how you’ll market towards these people, and the devices you’ll use to do this.

From offline marketing like direct mail, online marketing like social media to your budget, your customer personas now makes an important part of your plans and actually makes it easier to create your marketing plan.

Customer personas are such an important aspect within your business, as it lets you know exactly what your customer wants and needs.
