Do you want to grow your email list?

Do you send emails to potential customers?

Email marketing is a great way to entice new orders, raise the awareness of your brand, and makes sure you’re always staying in your customer’s thought process.

Growing your email list can be difficult at first, and if don’t have a clue where to begin, this guide will help you. Within this blog post you will discover how to grow your email list for your business.

Set Up An Email Marketing Software

Depending on where you have done your research, you need to get started with an email software.

I recommend you start with Mailchimp, as this is the software that I use. Free for users under 2,000 subscribers and 12,000 sends a month, it comes with templates, reports and lots more.

If you would like more help with this, check out this blog post that I recently published.

Create a template for your campaigns, get to know your way around the software, and get familiar with it. Everything comes with practise, so the more you know about it, the better.

Where To Place Your Opt In Forms

From your side bar, pop ups, to your About page, you can place opt ins all around your website to grow your email list.

There’s lots of different places you can place these opt in boxes, but some are better than others. With this blog, I have one in the sidebar, footer, About page and one in my top banner. Let me explain why these are good positions.

Sidebar – a popular area to place opt in boxes, sidebars are generally seen by a lot of people that arrive on a blog or website.

Footer – one of my most successful positions to capture emails, is the footer. This doesn’t intrude users, and can grow your email list effectively.

About page – a word of wisdom by Derek Halpern from Social Triggers, the About page is a popular website page, so why not take advantage of this and place an opt in form?

Top banner – many new websites are now doing this, as it’s the first place that’s seen on a website. Whatever page you visit, they will be approached by this top banner opt in.

I can’t recommend pop ups as I don’t do this myself. This is where websites ask you for your email address, in a ‘pop up’ sort of style. I know many websites that use this technique, as it can be highly effective.

Offer Subscribers Multiple Freebies

A couple of years ago, having one opt in ‘carrot’ was enough to get more subscribers.

And when I say a ‘carrot’, I mean something that new subscribers can get for free. Many websites offer a free e-book or guide, in exchange for an email address. This is a good way to grow an email list, but it can be improved.

Even though one ‘carrot’ is better than none, having multiple opt in ‘carrots’ can really grow your email list.

And it can help segment your email list too. Let me explain;

If you create two free e-books for subscribers, one helping them with marketing and one with sales, you can segment your email list into these two funnels.

Grow Your Email List

When someone subscribes to your marketing list, and receives a free ebook because of it, they will go into your marketing list, with the same process happening with your sales list.

You can increase your email list tenfold, as more and more people want your free products.

Automation, Newsletters and Direct Emails

Once you start to grow your email list, a good idea is to bring these three elements into the fold. Even though this blot post is about growing your email list, you need to know how to optain your subscribers too.

Automation – a great element to consider for your emails as its automatic. After you’ve done the hard work with setting them up and creating content, then its good to go! Your subscribers will receive automatic emails from you.

Newsletters – a good way to sum up what’s happening with your business is with a monthly newsletter. This can include your recent blog posts, new business contracts to employee of the month.

Direct Emails – these types of emails can help you create ‘salesy’ emails, which are targeted and personalised to your audience. These are personal to them, and will increase your sales.
